I just found one today. The main motor was copper but the power head was wound with aluminum bummer
Still great find. Thanks for the comment. Stay well and happy scrapping!
Thanks Tinman.
Glad you are making these videos, and there is great info here, but it's really annoying when you do the actual work in front of your body and we're looking at the back of your arm or shoulder. Why not put the camera on the other side of the workbench so you don't have to keep turning around, making us all dizzy. Plus then we can actually see what you are doing. Do you ever watch your videos?
Thank you, Tinman!
Great video
Great find! rooster.
Note extrusion has gone down a little in price now $1.15lb. Final weight 39lbs x $1.15
Has the value gone up since you first got that material in the fall?
@@daaam2160 yes, it was around $0.75 lb in fall now $1.15lb. Although it was $1.30lb in spring.
Umm tin is a pure metal (Sn). It is not steel. The items you are calling tin are not tin but tin plated steel.
they are categories we use at the scrapyards here in southwestern Ont. tin (magnetic thinner than 1/4 inch and steel magnetic thicker than 1/4 inch)
Hook up with electronics rehabs for parts. 😮 It's good to melt and cope and drag your own goodies.😊
hey tin man you rec heat gun or auto chiz for stripping boards?
I don’t like using a heat gun because it releases a lot of smell and not wanting to breath it in. I just use channel locks and pliers.
I'm the scrapper if I find a camping show in a blue box what does that mean
Exactly how I do it too. Nice work 👌🏼👌🏼
Thanks for the comment and for watching. Stay well and happy scrapping!
Hard pass for me
about how much do you make each
Probably around $6 Cdn if the cables are copper. The batteries are nice and heavy and are paid by pound
3 cents a pound ? Throw them into the tin pile ! When they were paying per battery we made more by throwing them into the tin . When the fires started they changed their tune and started weighing the damn things . This is a great way to destroy your hands ...like i have .
Excellent video thank you very much 🙏
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching and the comment. Stay well and happy scrapping!
I don’t find them worth the time or effort they require to properly separate the material, however, I will give them only 10 minutes removing the clean aluminum pieces you separated.. the rest goes to shred after that..at least it still gets recycled properly, and is not in the landfill 😎👍🏻
Yup, totally agree. I have gotten a lot more conscious of how much time vs payout I spend on an item. If not, I would have a huge backlog of items to get through. As you said, at least diverted from the landfill.
i hope the flyback, the only thing hard to replace was broken
Great information, thanks! What would you class an aluminum bike frame that's factory painted. It's thick aluminum
It would still be in same category as sheet aluminum. Thanks for watching and the question.
At 0:48 I saw a tip from another scrapper who said puta thin rag around your magnet so when it's full of screws, invert it into a little bag and remove the magnet. Then you can dump the screws into the trash.
Thanks for the tip. Thanks for watching as well.
Copper #2 is $2.90 here in Upstate NY. I know Canadian money and US differ. Brass went down 35 cents. Empty Microwaves make cool Cans for screws, bolts and small metal for scrapping quickly.
Still $2.90 US would be only around $3.80ish Cdn. (still a lot less than in London). Amazing the price difference from region to region, country to country for the same materials. Thanks for watching. Stay well and happy scrapping.
Works better if you take a magnet out of the speaker frame if possible....
Yeah, they work like the magnetron magnets but just not powerful enough to pick up the heavy items.
Would have been nice to see the breakdown of what the value was for the 18lbs of chargers
I really enjoy taking apart transformers
For the small time scrapper who doesn’t come across big piles of wire..doesn’t frequent construction or demo sites, and who doesn’t commit acts of blatant theft - little things like power supplies are like gold. Things like this/aluminum cans, etc..I let them rack up for the better part of a year or more, I don’t do this for a living so it’s well worth it to let it all rack up, ‘s a nice payday at the end of the year, ‘s like free money in my eyes. That said, someone who has regular access to bigger ticket scrap pieces may not think it worth their time to fiddle with these things as it does take some time to rack up an amount worth taking in..to me/in my area at least (I certainly don’t get anywhere near $4+ per lb of copper lol).
I too will do a pile of these, preferably in fall or winter when cooler in the garage. Thanks for the comment. Scrapping can be a nice side job for sure.
Hey bro love ur work
Thank you very much. Thanks for watching!
On this light connectors it’s easier just to peel the backing paper
Thanks for the tip.
I don't know about grinding non stick. I'm sure that's not good to breathe in
Unfortunately all of the things you grind are not good to breathe in. Make sure you use a well ventilated area and wear a mask when grinding.
Hi just a question about vacuums is it worth it to scrap it or not
I do. The motors are worth scrapping as is the wire and other goodies that is inside. Unfortunately though there is a lot of plastic that does have to be thrown out from scrapping them, but you would be throwing out the plastic anyway.
My yards don't give extrusion aluminum, it goes as old sheet aluminum
Kinda weird the different categories and prices that are given at various yards for the same items.
I think it has to do with the type of alloy, and demand/supply. If you have a nearby company that makes aluminum products, they could save money by buying extrusion directly from your yard and throw it in their smelter.
Thank you!
Thank you for watching.
Thanks for the video! I would have done the same thing. Take the clean you can get and move on to the next project.
Yup, amazing how quick the scrap pile can add up if you don’t. Thanks for the comment.
Final weight: 9.4 lbs (dirty aluminum $0.17lb x 4.3lbs) + (clean aluminum $0.55lb x 5.1lbs)
Hi
Even copper wire is all stainless on all new electronics makes you Wonder 😢
Scratch it. It could be coated copper wire.
Best to find ol skool electronics
To be honest I been scrappy for years. They changing the percentage of valuable metals beware
Yeah, the old items are better for sure when looking at precious metal recovery. Thanks for the comment.
What about old flip phones is there gold in them? Thanks save it and make a bar.
Yup. I do have a video on old cell phones. The prongs are gold plated as well.
@TinManScrapper hey tin man great videos. I was interested in others sources of tin to look for while scraping. If you know of any it would be greatly appreciated
I use an inexpensive air chisel to remove the windings, more effective 😊
That would speed up the process for sure.
I got alot of copper ill sell you type 1 separate for I can sell it to you 😅
Unless your pulling all the plastic off the metal it doesnt matter what the metal is...chances are the yards are giving you mixed tin price ...which aint much.
I agree.
@@TinManScrapper Then why not state it? The way you said it seems like you can just take the microwave door in and they give you steel price.....when in fact most yards just throw the door away bc there is way more plastic than metal and it ain't worth the effort. That plus you kept referring to things as steel....when all the yards I've dealt with would say it's tin. If it's thin, it's tin...if it's thick then it's steel is my rule of thumb. Works most the time. Other than that it was a great video and very informative.
@@Honda-wf6qj Thank you for the comment. You are right about the “thin is tin comment.”:This was one of my first videos and things have changed a lot since I made this one, as I too have learned a lot in those years.
thats alot of work for $20
How much money did you make from scrapping that water heater?
I got around $18 Cdn for the tin and copper pipes
Thank you so much for your help.
Glad it helped. Thanks for watching.
...says will only take 15 minutes but wont do all for the sake of the video, makes a 15 minute video
If you get muratic acid cheap at Home Depot dunk it for 5 min and wash it off copper looks new
Not all scrap yard atendees know what they should, most will screw you over the good places like what this gent goes to actually cares for thier customers, and grams adds up to onces which adds up to pounds which add up to big $$$ so pay attention watch and learn has helped me out big time and right now i need all the dam help i can friggin get so thank you forte info in the video
